Taxes and the New Hampshire Advantage:
The New Hampshire Advantage represents a significant difference between us and our neighboring states: that the absence of a sales or income tax allows citizens to keep more of what they earn and creates an environment for small business owners to thrive. No one understands more than Bob Letourneau - he has championed this message in Concord and has consistently voted against a sales or an income tax. But maintaining this commitment takes more that just this -- it takes a commitment to low taxes and low spending. And Bob Letourneau has a proven track record about trying to keep more tax burdens off New Hampshire's working families and small businesses.
Education:
In serving his constituents, Bob Letourneau has witnessed the constant battle of the education funding structure in the state. Working hand in hand with education leaders in his district, he has fought legislative leadership, the governor and even his own party to make changes to legislation that would have cost residents in his Senate District millions of dollars in increased property taxes and taken money away from area schools.
I -93 Expansion:
As Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, Bob Letourneau fought to secure improvements on I-93, and has been recognized as a leader in the fight to ensure the federal government keeps its promises to New Hampshire by help funding critical improvements to the state's highways. In addition, Bob fought for legislation to reduce the growing diversion of state gas tax revenue - money meant for maintaining our state roads - to non-transportation state agencies and programs. At a time when money for road construction is being reduced, Bob's support for this legislation provides another $15 million per year for maintenance and safety improvements to our roads - without providing added burdens on the taxpayers.
Child Protection:
A member of the Judiciary Committee of the NH Senate, Bob Letourneau fought to require minimum 25 year sentences for child sex offenders, led the effort to enact the state's Child Protection Act, and the Internet Protection Act. Finally, Bob fought to pass a law that prevents convicted pedophiles from changing their names to avoid registration.
Veterans Issues:
Bob Letourneau believes we owe a large debt of gratitude to all our men and women who serve in our armed forces, and he has been a tireless advocate for veterans Concord. Bob has been a tireless advocate on behalf of veterans and their families, including leading the fight to provide tax exemptions to veterans of the War on Terror; and honoring the sacrifice of Blue Star and Gold Star Mothers.
Senior Issues:
While fighting to reduce property taxes for all citizens, Senator Letourneau is especially concerned about the impact of tax increases on senior citizens and others with fixed incomes. Bob Letourneau serves as a Director of the National Legislative Association on Prescription Drug Prices where he has worked to reduce the costs of prescriptions drugs for all seniors.
